This really should have gone up Sunday evening but I just wasn’t in the mood to write a blog. It’s hard to know what to make of Sunday because on the one hand it was so positive and yet on the other, I couldn’t help feeling that we could have got more out of our final GS race here in El Colorado. Not only that, I felt the team deserved more.
Sunday saw P.B results, from Emily Evans (54), Thomasine Nilson-Wrede, (113), Kieran Norris (115) and Roy Steudle (51). On that basis it was a good day, Emily and Kieran had great 1st runs and Thomasine looked strong on the flats especially. But for Roy it was so close to being a great day because what he did on Sunday was truly impressive.
Roy started bib 39, and as such we were looking to get inside the top 30 and stay as close to the leaders as possible, Roy has been skiing very well recently so that was a fairly easy target. However Roy obviously had different ideas and skied probably the best race run I have seen from him going into 4th position. 39th into 4th.......Wow!!! As a coach, you always hope that your athletes will produce some of their training form when it’s crunch time, well Roy did that, and more on Sunday.
Sadly Roy he fell inside 2nd run, but he got back up and completed, and still made his best result to date in GS, he did not get the podium position that he wanted but he will take away the knowledge and the belief of what is possible for him now. The reason I mention all of this is because I was really, really proud on Sunday - runs like that make all the hard work by everyone completely worth while.
Anyway, it’s clearly going to be another exciting season at Ambition. There is a lot more to come from all of the athletes, that’s for sure!!
Since then we have headed down to Santiago for a break.... and rather than bang on about it, (we are here still and there is much to be done) i thought i'd post the pics!
